One of the most important parts of any musical is the people behind the scenes who ensure that everything looks good and runs smoothly come show time. For this feature of the countdown, we took a look at what the tech crew of ‘Footloose’ was doing Wednesday after-school and what the set was looking like so far.
The tech crew takes care of the lighting, sound, stage management, set design, prop handling, and a whole lot more that allows it all to come together. They provide the physical infrastructure on which the thespians of the drama club use, and without the techies, well, let’s not think about that scenario.
Sawdust was flying in the air as we took our cameras into the auditorium to see what the ‘techies’, as the crew members are affectionately called, were up to. So far, the crew has done amazing work designing, constructing, and perfecting/painting the set and other features which will be revealed in action during the show.
The following pictures are just some of the many things tech crew was working on.

Senior Ben Kurtze hides behind the stained glass window set pieces he helped to cut out and make.

The Techies spend a lot of time planning and working to ensure a great show, spending many hours building the physical set but a figurative set up for the big night.

The overall set of ‘Footloose’ is a series of platforms and staircases that is full of surprises to be revealed show night.

Sawdust filled the air as Sophomore Liv Demarco easily cut a piece of wood using a huge saw backstage. Next time, The Fordian staff are a gonna bring
goggles.

Going over what exactly they’re going to paint, Sophomores Sinead Roche and Joanna Maier meet with Senior Emily Patton over mixed paint as devise their painting plan.

The “Techies” (members of tech crew) have been hard at work preparing the set, sound, lighting, and all other parts of the show’s infrastructure for opening night.
