With winter just beginning and no winter break to look forward to, I’m sure we are all feeling a bit of seasonal sadness. With the sun shining for only a minimal amount of time each day, finding ways to stay motivated and happy has become more challenging. Lucky for you, I have curated some habits that could help combat the winter blues.
- Find time to soak up the sun.
Whether it’s when you’re walking in or out of the high school’s doors, walking to Wawa with friends, or even in a class with the sun shining through the windows, finding moments to bask in the sunlight can boost your mood.
- Find something to look forward to every single day.
It could be your morning coffee, a hot, steamy shower, or seeing your friends in classes and at lunch. When you have something to look forward to, your mind automatically focuses on at least one positive thing in your daily routine.
- Build productive yet simple routines.
Having a routine that you can follow every day might seem like just another task, but if you structure it the right way, it could bring more joy during these darker months. For example, instead of immediately checking your phone for notifications when you wake up, try making your bed and drinking some water that you set out the night before. These two simple actions can help you feel like you’ve accomplished something within the first five minutes of your day.
- Romanticize your life.
When there is minimal sunlight after school, staying motivated can be tough. My final tip is to romanticize everything you do this winter. Pretend there is a camera crew filming you while you complete your homework. Making your lunch? You’re the next Gordon Ramsay! Pick out clothes that are comfortable and make you feel ready to take on the day.
Even if the winter doesn’t get you down, these tips and tricks can help boost your mood whenever you’re having a rough time. The small habits you incorporate could change how you feel every day when you wake up.
