The Pajama Game is the game we play, and the Haverford Drama Club is excited to present its rendition of the classic Broadway musical this week from November 14th to 16th.
The show is set in the sleepy town of Cedar Springs, Iowa, a place of tension between the union workers and management at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory. When new superintendent Sid Sorokin is hired, romantic tensions spark between him and the head of the union grievance committee Katie “Babe” Williams. Will Babe and Sid be able to pursue their affections for each other despite their differences? Will the union be able to secure their seven-and-a-half cent raise despite management’s stubbornness? And what’s this about knife throwing? The show is an exciting blend of humor, dance, and drama that will have the audience on the edge of their seats.
The Pajama Game will feature:
Mikey Gibbs as Sid Sorokin
Ella Armandi as Babe Williams
Henry Bambrick as Mr. Hines
Norah Kneafsey as Gladys

The Haverford Drama Club has been working tirelessly to present a perfect show. We asked a few members of each department of the Drama Club in order to gain more insight of the behind-the-scenes:
Emerson Simmons (Co-Head of Costumes):
“It’s going to be something entirely different than anyone’s ever seen in the best way possible. [The students] are bringing new energy, new vibes, and there’s just been a ton of work put into it. The same way you go and support your friends when they play sports…come support your friends, see the hard work they’re putting forth. See that talent and the dedication that these students are putting into this show…it’s such a wonderful representation of Haverford Pride.”
Nat Decter (Co-Head of Carpentry, Assistant Stage Manager)
“[The Pajama Game] is one of the larger fall shows that we’ve ever had here at the high school, [as in] one of the more technically complex shows, considering that the fall show is usually the smaller of the two shows we run each year. I think it’ll be impressive [and] overall more enjoyable than the average fall show.”
Lauren Baxter (Tech Liaison, Assistant Stage Manager, Co-Head of Props)
“From a tech standpoint, we’ve been working hard in our respective departments to put on a show that is worth seeing.”
Ella Armandi (Drama Club Fundraising and Events Chair, the role of “Babe Williams” in The Pajama Game)
“I think that students should go see The Pajama Game because it conveys a great message about unions and unfair workspaces and also a very sweet love between two characters. It’s just a very silly, lighthearted, fun musical.”
Riley Younger-Walker (Drama Club President, the role of “Eddie” in The Pajama Game)
“[This show] is the first time we’ve done a rom-com type thing, and the interaction with each of the cast members is great. It feels like a showcase of everyone’s talents.”
Becca Vitale (Co-Head of Costumes)
“Well, I think The Pajama Game is a great show because not only does it get to feature so many students…but also all the costumers and techies, you know we put a lot of effort and time, and it’s great to see the students that you have classes with thrive in this new environment.”
Jack Carfrey (Head of Lights, Assistant Tech Director)
“I think people should come see The Pajama Game because of all the work that the cast and the crew and everybody else involved with the show has put into it. We had less time to work on the show, but despite that, we put more work into it…and because of that, I believe that it’ll come out to be a much better show than any other fall show that Haverford has put out so far.”
Jayling Goolsby (Head of Sound, Set Designer)
“I think that the set is really cool and especially the hours and hours of work that everyone’s put into the shows. And also, it’s just kind of fun to get to see a musical.”
Tickets will be on sale throughout this week. Go support your friends in Drama Club and see The Pajama Game!
