It’s October 8th and Sabrina Carpenter is performing at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. You battled the Ticketmaster monsters and paid an arm and a leg to secure seats months ago. Now the night has finally arrived, but was the concert worth the hoops you jumped through to acquire the tickets?
The concert was set to start with opener Amaarae at 7:00 pm EST. She played about a 40-minute set with a good mix of her own pop/R&B originals plus a few covers of popular songs. A highlight of her set was a sped-up cover of “Hot To Go” by Chappell Roan!
Sabrina took a short period to appear after Amaarae finished her set. Around 8:35, Sabrina’s witty intro started to fill the speakers and screens across the arena. Her creative intro is something unique to only her shows. It starts with her in a pink bubble bath filming a commercial; a narrator then reminds her she has a show to do. Sabrina runs out onto the stage in a towel when she suddenly drops it to reveal a gorgeous glitzy outfit. She started the show with her synthetic pop song “Taste” and ended with her hit single “Espresso”. The show ended around 10:05 after playing a set of 20 songs.
Sabrina, who is from East Greenville, Pennsylvania, made her hometown show extra special for her fans. When she dropped her towel, she revealed a NEW red outfit that shocked the crowd. Additionally, she wore new red clothing sets during her performances of “Juno” and “Dumb and Poetic”. She also sported a bedazzled Phillies jersey during her encore of “Espresso”. During her costume changes, fake commercials or ads were projected onto the screens.
Overall, her stage performance was enthusiastic and felt very natural for her. She and her numerous dancers used all areas of the set in surprising and fun ways. Her stage design echoed the structure of a Barbie dream house complete with a bedroom, fireplace, bathroom, and various props. Additionally, the arrangement of her show was split into three acts, highlighting Sabrina’s bubbly and carefree personality.
Overall, Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet Tour was worth attending. Sophomore, Ali Henninger, said “It was 100% worth attending. It was more than just a concert; it was a full performance.” Henninger added,”The show felt personal, like I personally knew her. It felt like we were all at one big slumber party.“ Sabrina’s comical and energetic personality paired with the theme of 60s TV was a perfect formula for a perfect concert.
