Haverford Township Day—a long-awaited event that has been canceled for the past two years due to weather—returned this year. This is a day, typically the first Saturday of October, when the citizens of Haverford Township get together for a day of festivities, food, and vendors promoting their local businesses.
The day began with the annual Haverford Township Day Parade. Haverford police, firefighters, and ambulances led the way, followed by other clubs and organizations such as the Haverford High School Marching Band, the Girl and Boy Scouts, Haverford Soccer Club, Haverford Heat Cheerleading, and Haverford Ice Hockey, as well as local businesses like Inspiration Through Movement. Along with the parade were several performances, such as the Haverford High School Orchestra, the De La Salle Orchestra, and kids’ entertainment artists. These performances continued throughout the day until 4:00 when everything ended.
Tents and stalls lined Darby Road and Brookline Boulevard, selling their wares and promoting their business. There were many different types of stalls: clothing shops, jewelry stores, school clubs, and food vendors. Many of them had been attending Haverford Township Day for years, but for some, it was the first time. “This is my first year here,” says Amy Grossman, who worked RESINating Crafts’ stall. “I decided to stop hiding my artwork… Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone,” she advises.
Many people returned home feeling full and tired from the day, with good memories and souvenirs. “The live music and delicious food made today really fun,” says Lucy Kaplan, a 9th-grade student of Haverford High School, “Can’t wait for next year!”
