Bright streamers in red and yellow cascaded across the walls as buzzing teens swarmed through the doorway to gather around a live band performing everyone’s favorite tunes. Held in the Juenger Gymnasium on Friday night, April 19th, the 2024 Freshman-Sophomore Dance (FROSH) transformed the high school into a setting filled with energy, fun, and friendship.
Organized by the Freshman and Sophomore Class officers, FROSH featured a photo wall strung with banners, a DJ in the gym blasting pop hits, and a live band in the cafeteria playing indie rock and entertaining those who were relaxing. Depicting the theme of “H-Pride,” students arrived decked out in Haverford’s signature colors, crimson and gold.
While the DJ filled the gym with loud music and exciting dances, FROSH used the lower half of the cafeteria for a quieter atmosphere. This area provided tables and chairs where students could sit and relax while listening to the band: Damsel in Distress.
Damsel in Distress is a Haverford student band that features Ryan Delacy on bass, Christian Fusto on drums, Justina Urso on voice, Tyler Gill on keys, and Luke Forde on guitar. Damsel in Distress was a big hit and very popular among the students who love live music!
Imara Kay, a freshman, happily exclaimed, “I’m so excited. All the songs that [Damsel in Distress] play are really good, and I’m having such a good time hanging out with my friends and dancing!”
The one criticism of the dance was that the DJ should have played some “low-key” music and given students a chance to listen to Damsel in Distress. Fans had hoped the band would get a larger audience later in the night, which didn’t happen because most students were in the gym during the entire dance.
However, though the band didn’t get a large audience, it was clear that the dance was an absolute blast and a night to remember. Capturing the spirit of the evening, Freshman Zehrah Punillith yelled, “I love FROSH, and I’m having a great time!”
