Haverford’s Drama Club will take the stage in four performances of the award-winning musical, Into the Woods. The show opens on Thursday, March 23rd at 7 pm and continues Friday, March 24th at 7 pm. Saturday, March 25th there will be two performances: 2 pm and 7 pm.

Stephen Sondheim, American musician and composer, expertly intertwined various fairy tales from The Brothers Grimm to create the unique tale that is Into the Woods. The classic stories, like Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood, are tied together with the story of a childless baker and his wife on a quest for a child, hoping to start a family (which just so happens to be the original beginning of the Brothers Grimm version of Rapunzel). First premiering in San Diego, California in 1986, the musical has had countless productions, including a hit film adaptation released in the winter of 2014.

With leads Senior Colin Cleary as the Baker and Senior Katie Blickley as the Baker’s Wife, this show will be the final performance for many of Haverford’s Class of 2023. Other seniors involved in the production are Bethany Jesse playing Little Red, Sophia Politano as Jack’s Mother, Ava Facciolo portraying Jack, and Marie O’Brien playing Cinderella’s Stepmother.

Haverford’s production of Into the Woods will be the same as the Broadway production, including all the numbers and songs that are traditionally performed. Drama Club, however, is modifying the production with additional ensemble and an updated setting to make it feel “a bit more fresh and different than other productions of the musical others may have seen in the past,” according to Director Sarah DeNight.

Juniors and seniors will attend an in-person preview of the musical during an extended 34-minute homeroom on Wednesday, March 22nd. Sophomores and freshmen will watch the livestream in their homerooms.

Tickets can be bought at this link or at the door; general admission tickets are $10 and student/senior tickets are $8.
