Visitors to the high school Thursday night on November 20th probably noticed the group of students gathered with a multitude of musical instruments. And for good reason: the Tri-M Music Honor Society held its first concert of the year on Thursday, November 20th, featuring performances by returning members to Tri-M. The acts themselves showcased a wide range of talent, with vocal, orchestral, and band arrangements.
Tri-M is composed of musicians in advanced groups, such as Chamber Singers, String Ensemble, and Wind Ensemble. There are chapters of Tri-M across the country, all with the goal of encouraging musical development in schools. Members are selected by their directors, and are required to perform in at least two concerts a year. This year’s co-presidents are Kyungchul Yoon, Ian Anstee, and Kevin Vu; Jason Loux is the stage manager.
The night also featured a special guest: Mr. Gibson, a teacher at Haverford who also plays piano and sings. Mr. Gibson performed a rendition of “As Sad and Deep As You” by Dave Mason with Jason Loux, a senior. Other performances took a more humorous stance, such as Chris Donnay and Remi Segal’s lively performance of “The Song that Goes Like This” by Eric Idle.
The next Tri-M recital will take place in January, to introduce new inductees. All are welcome to attend and support Haverford’s talented musicians.
