Anticipation for the Mr. Haverford contest is growing as the show date draws nearer. After weeks of video preparations, the big reveal, and the student vote, the pool has been narrowed down to 10 contestants who are this year’s lucky students competing for the title. This year, the competition is on the night of April 17th and up until then, The Fordian staff has decided to interview each contestant and reveal the exclusive info the staff found out about them. Up first: This year’s two juniors.
Junior Jack Durfee is one of only two Junior Mr. Haverford hopefuls this year. In this exclusive interview, The Fordian finds out more about this candidate who did the musical and who plays basketball.
First up is Junior Jack Durfee.
Q: “What inspired you to do Mr. Haverford?”
A: “It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, even in middle school. I got the opportunity to see a show in seventh grade and couldn’t wait. I have even been planning some ideas since then. I planned on waiting until senior year to audition but Jake Savitz encouraged me to go for it now.” He responds in a quiet genuine tone. Seems to carefully choose each word, crafting his answer.
Q: Will being a junior affect your performance?
A: “Not really. It’s not to win, it’s for the experience. It’s mainly to know what to do for next year and have a better group experience.”
Q: What is some background about yourself?
A: “I’m easily the best looking contestant. Everybody tells me I look like Zac Efron. Not unusual since I do the musical and play basketball in my free time. I hang out with my girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens as Gabriella Montes. “I have three younger sisters, one in the high school. I’m the least interesting person I know. I am just so plain. I don’t eat healthy. The only time I have ever eaten a vegetable was on a burger.”
Q: Can you offer any hints for your Mr. Haverford performance?
A: “I will definitely be incorporating reality TV into my video.”
Q: What are you most excited for for Mr. Haverford?
A: “ Creating and showing the group video.”
Q: Do you have any positive characteristics that might help you win?
A: “I am easily the best dancer of the group and am partners with Gabe Klee, another good dancer.”
Q: What will you do if you win Mr. Haverford?
A: “Wait there’s not a cash prize?” he jokes. He continues more seriously: “I will just come back and win it again.”
Q: Describe yourself in three words…
A: “Simply the best.”
Q: Anything final you would like to say to the fans?
A: “No.”
