On the 7th day before winter break, The Fordian gives to you: 7 holiday cookie recipes to impress the family.

  1. Oatmeal Chocolate Chip

Ingredients:

  • 1 stick of baking Crisco in the “butter” flavor
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups oats
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate morsels

Baking instructions: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Then mix together the crisco, brown and granulated sugars. Now, add eggs and vanilla extract and mix. Next, add the flour, salt and baking soda and mix. Last, add the oats and chocolate morsels; mix. Line your cookie sheet with parchment paper and use a cookie scoop to drop the cookies on the sheet. Bake for 9-10 minutes and be sure not to overcook. Enjoy!

  1. Grandmom’s Gingersnaps

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup of margarine
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup white sugar(for topping only)

Baking instructions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium bowl, cream together the margarine and 1 cup white sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and molasses until well blended. Combine the flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda and salt; stir into the molasses mixture to form a dough. Roll dough into 1 inch balls and roll the balls in the remaining sugar. Place cookies 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy!

  1. Classic Snickerdoodles

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 1 ½ cups white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 ¾ cups all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon

Baking instructions: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cream together butter, shortening, 1 1/2 cups sugar, the eggs and the vanilla. Blend in the flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt. Shape dough by rounded spoonfuls into balls. Mix the 2 tablespoons sugar and the cinnamon. Roll balls of dough in mixture. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until set but not too hard. Remove immediately from baking sheets. Enjoy!

  1. White Chocolate Cranberry Delights

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 ½ cups all purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¾ cup white chocolate chips
  • 1 cup dried cranberries

Baking instructions: Preheat oven to 375 degrees and grease cookie sheet. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and brandy. Combine the flour and baking soda; stir into the sugar mixture. Mix in the white chocolate chips and cranberries. Drop by heaping spoonfuls onto prepared cookie sheets. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. For best results, take them out while they are still doughy. Allow cookies to cool for 1 minute on the cookie sheets before transferring to wire racks to cool completely. Enjoy!

  1. Peanut Butter Blossoms

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 ½ cups all purpose
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ cup white sugar for decoration
  • 2 nine ounce bags of hershey kisses, unwrapped

Baking instructions: Preheat oven to 375 degrees and grease cookie sheets. In a large bowl, cream together the shortening, peanut butter, brown sugar, and 1 cup white sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, and stir in the milk and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt; stir into the peanut butter mixture until well blended. Shape tablespoonfuls of dough into balls and roll in remaining white sugar. Place cookies 2 inches apart on the prepared cookie sheets. Bake for 10 to12 minutes in the preheated oven. Remove from oven, and immediately press a chocolate kiss into each cookie. Allow to cool completely; the kiss will harden as it cools. Enjoy!

  1. Chocolate Earthquake Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of devil’s food cake mix
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup shortening
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp water

Baking instructions:

Mix cake mix, eggs, shortening, and water in medium size bowl; mix with a spoon. Chill for 1 hour. Shape dough into balls, roll in powdered sugar. Place on cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until brown. Enjoy!

  1.  Grandma’s Rolled Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups butter, softened
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 5 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt

Baking Instructions:

In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cover, and chill dough for at least one hour (or overnight). Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely. Enjoy!
